Kolkata, Aug 30 (IANS) Eminent industrialist and former Rajya Sabha member Krishna Kumar Birla died at his Birla Park residence here Saturday after a brief illness. He was 90.

India Inc's raw material expenditures up in Q1

Rising inflation and a huge rally in commodity prices all over the world has started to have a telling impact on India Inc's profitability, reveals a study by FE. While much of this was expected, the extent of impact is actually quite severe, as the study has found: for a sample of 2,036 companies, raw material costs have increased by 37.4% in the first quarter of FY'09, touching Rs 2.85 lakh crore as against Rs 2.08 lakh crore during the same period of the previous year.

L&T order book swells to Rs 52,683 cr, profits up 55%
